WHEN THE DAYS GROW SHORT
BBA Nº 2 · The Amber Solstice · Spiced Winter Warmer Ale
May 15, 2026 / in Amber ALES

There is a moment in late December when the world contracts. The days shrink to their shortest, the nights stretch wide and still, and everything unnecessary falls away. It is not a moment for the ordinary. For Dave Hemingway, Co-Founder and Cellar Master of BBA Brewery Co., it is precisely this moment that demanded its own ale.
BBA Nº 2 · The Amber Solstice is the second chapter of The Grateful Eight — our complete ale collection, eight brews, eight brewers, one singular obsession with craft. Where The Obsidian Vigil opens with the gravity of a declaration, The Amber Solstice answers with warmth. Not the warmth of comfort, but the warmth of intention.
BREWED FOR THE LONGEST NIGHT
Dave did not set out to brew a seasonal novelty. He set out to capture something far more precise: the specific, irreplaceable sensation of holding something warm in both hands while the cold presses against the window. The Amber Solstice, he believes, must feel like the room you did not want to leave.
Deep amber-copper in the glass, haloed by a faint ring of gold, it pours slow and generous. The nose opens with candied orange peel and raw honey before the spice enters — cinnamon first, then clove, then the slow, deliberate presence of star anise. The finish is toasted rye: dry, grounding, and long. It does not arrive in haste. Beauty, as Dave reminds us, was never meant to rush.
THE GEWÜRZTRAMINER OF THE COLLECTION
Within The Grateful Eight, The Amber Solstice occupies a singular register. Dave constructed it the way a master sommelier might reach for a late-harvest Gewürztraminer — not for every occasion, but for the occasion that demands exactly this. Layered, generous, and unhurried, it rewards those who understand that complexity is not the same as difficulty.
At 8.2% ABV, it carries real weight without ever losing its elegance. It is an ale for fireside evenings, for long tables set with candlelight, for the kind of nights where time moves differently. Spiced with precision. Poured with purpose.
A WARMTH THAT LINGERS
What distinguishes BBA Nº 2 within the collection is its generosity of spirit. Where other ales challenge, The Amber Solstice envelopes. It is warm, layered, and entirely without apology — a Cellar Master’s love letter to the darkest, most beautiful season of the year.
The collection deepens here. And it does so in magnificent, amber light.
